Reality, Thought, and Language with Dr. Tanveer Azmat
On July 18th, The Last Word got together with Accessible Academics to launch a series of talks, the first of which focused on hermeneutics.
Dr. Tanveer Azmat, a graduate of the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, spoke on philosophical hermeneutics. This field of study asks a fundamental question: how do we understand anything, i.e. what is understanding and what does it mean to understand something? In our life we encounter the objects of nature, e.g. an apple, and the objects of culture, e.g. texts. How is understanding the two objects is different? What are the limits of human understanding?
